Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/7/26): Cubs 4, A’s 3 – Happ Homers in Win
The Cubs tangled with their next-door neighbors, the Athletics, at Sloan Park Saturday afternoon. It was a back-and-forth affair but eventually Craig Counsell‘s team came away with a one-run victory.
Chicago struck first with a Pedro Ramirez solo home run and an RBI single by Nico Hoerner in the bottom of the 2nd that made it 2-0. Shōta Imanaga gave up the lead to the A’s with a three-spot in the top of the 3rd. Brian Serven had the big blow with a go-ahead two-run homer that made it 3-2.
Ian Happ tied the game for the North Siders with a solo shot in the bottom of the 5th inning. They went ahead for good in the following frame when Carson Kelly doubled to set up a Ramirez sacrifice fly. That would be the final as the home team won 4-3. (Box score)
Key Moment
The Cubs battled back after falling behind in the 3rd inning to take control of the game.
Why the Cubs Won
They pitched very well outside of one inning and got some timely extra-base hits.
Stats That Matter
- Imanaga had three strikeouts in 3.2 innings and continues to have home run issues.
- Kelly had a perfect day with two hits and a walk.
- Happ singled in addition to his homer.
Bottom Line
Spring training is now in full swing, and everyone is in the rhythm of a routine by this point. The roster is pretty set for 2026 so there isn’t much drama in camp. The only thing not locked up is the pitching rotation, so keep an eye on that.
On Deck
