Watch: Pete Crow-Armstrong Scores from Second on Infield Grounder

With all due respect to Dominique Wilkins, Pete Crow-Armstrong is a human highlight reel. The Cubs’ center fielder of the future has an 80-grade glove, a solid hit tool with enough power to make him an above-average offensive producer, and speed to burn. He’s also overflowing with the confidence in his elite athleticism to make what would be stupid decisions for 99% of other players look good.

Watch as he scores from second base on an infield grounder. This isn’t normal.

The energy and swagger alone are worth the price of admission, but PCA has even more substance than style. Or maybe he’s got them in equal amounts because he’s got the kind of swagger we haven’t seen in Chicago since peak Javy Báez. Crow-Armstrong will appear in the Futures Game for the second year in a row and that might signal the end of his time at Double-A.

It may even be the end of his time in the minors, though I suspect the Cubs will give him some (unnecessary) experience at Triple-A Iowa. He would immediately be one of the best defensive outfielders in MLB and his combination of athleticism and elite body control will allow him to adjust on the fly to pitching at the highest level. Whether it’s later this year or the start of next, PCA will be an immediate fan favorite at Wrigley.
