Brennen Davis Placed on IL Due to Lower Back Discomfort

Well, we thought the injury bug was primarily impacting the big league club, with numerous players like Marcus Stroman, David Robertson, Nico Hoerner, and Seiya Suzuki suffering from either COVID-related issues or ankle injuries. However, now it seems like we’re getting news of some setbacks to a few minor league guys as well.

The latest is that OF Brennen Davis has been placed on the IL with what is being described as lower back discomfort. This is in addition to the hip injury sustained by SS Ed Howard on Tuesday caused by a collision with the first baseman.

For Davis, it’s possible that his IL stint will be effective retroactively to May 3, the last time he played. Although, with no timetable set for his return, it’s also possible that’s a move that may not be necessary.

Davis is the Cubs’ top prospect, but he has been struggling quite a bit to start the minor league season. His slash line of .195/.286/.585, which includes just two home runs in 77 at-bats, makes you wonder just how long he may have been dealing with this back issue. No news yet on that, but let’s hope he makes it back soon, healthy and ready to play.
