Chicago Cubs Lineup (3/23/22): Madrigal Leads Off, Happ at Cleanup, Stroman Starting

Marcus Stroman will be making his second start of the spring as the Cubs host the A’s at Sloan Park Wednesday afternoon. Oakland’s lineup doesn’t look like much of a murderer’s row, though it does feature former Cubs Tony Kemp and Billy McKinney. There’s also All-Name Team member Skye Bolt.

Nick Madrigal will lead off at second base, followed by Jason Heyward in center and Willson Contreras behind the plate. Ian Happ will serve as the DH in this one, which is a very good sign as he continues to work his way back from an offseason elbow cleanup procedure. Clint Frazier will be in left, Patrick Wisdom slides over to first, and Nico Hoerner is at short.

Brennen Davis handles right field and Ildemaro Vargas finishes out the lineup at third base. It’s interesting to see Davis in right with Heyward in center, but the veteran will likely be in that spot more frequently now that Seiya Suzuki has joined the team. The new addition will make his Cubs debut Friday and will get a bulk of the playing time in right, displacing Heyward either to center or the bench.

First pitch is scheduled for 3:05pm CT and can be seen on Marquee Sports Network.
