Chicago Cubs Lineup (3/3/21): Rizzo Leads Almost Regular Lineup, Davies Debuts on Mound

Anthony Rizzo is back in the leadoff spot Wednesday as the Cubs take on the Mariners in what will be a rare 9-inning spring affair. Ian Happ hit leadoff yesterday, but was still feeling the effects of food poisoning and probably isn’t yet at full strength.

Willson Contreras bats second, Kris Bryant bats and plays third, and Joc Pederson is in left. Javy Báez hits fifth at short, Jason Heyward is in right, Cameron Maybin is in center, David Bote is at second, and Nick Martini will try to stir the bottom of the lineup.

Zach Davies makes his first appearance in a Cubs uniform, though fans should be familiar with him from his time in Milwaukee. The righty’s stuff is reminiscent of Kyle Hendricks and both are are criminally underrated, though Davies is probably being overlooked by a lot of his own team’s supporters at this point.

Following Davies will be Jason Adam, Andrew Chafin, Juan Gámez, Tommy Nance, James Norwood, Kohl Stewart, Jerry Vasto, and Brandon Workman.

This is a rare game that most fans should be able to watch because it’s only on ESPN and won’t be subject to the standard blackout restrictions. That also means it’s a full-length contest, though that really just means going deeper into the reserves.

First pitch from Sloan Park is at 2:05pm CT.
