Series in St. Louis Postponed Due to Positive COVID Test(s) from Cardinals

Update: MLB has yet to officially announce it as of this update, but the Cubs-Cardinals series has been postponed and the Cubs are heading back to Chicago tonight.

As first reported by Mark Saxon of The Athletic, Friday’s game between the Cubs and Cardinals has been postponed due to additional positive tests. Jesse Rogers of ESPN confirmed the postponement, adding that the Cards have had at least one more positive test.

There has been no update on the rest of the series at this point, but it’s probably in the best interest of everyone involved to simply suspend the Cardinals for the season and let the rest of the teams carry on.

Update: Though there’s still no official word on the viability of the series, Saxon noted that testing and contact tracing over the next 24 hours will determine whether it can be played. A Sunday doubleheader is still in play should the Cards be cleared by then. Even before this latest setback, St. Louis was going to have to try to play 55 games in 52 days.
