Chicago Cubs Lineup (3/4/20): Descalso in LF, Chatwood Starting, Kimbrel Set to Debut

The Cubs get to hang out with old friends today in Goodyear as they face Nick Castellanos and Pedro Strop. Several other Reds players figure to be there as well. Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Javy Báez man their typical positions, Victor Caratini cleans up at catcher, and Albert Amora Jr. supplies the thunder in the five hole and center field.

David Bote is at second, Daniel Descalso is in…left field, Noel Cuevas handles right, and Trent Giambrone rounds things out at the DH. He has looked really good at the plate this spring, leading all Cubs second baseman with a .412 average. Descalso getting time in the outfield may be as strong as sign as ever that he’ll still be with the team to open the season.

Tyler Chatwood is on the mound in what could be considered another audition for the starting rotation. He’s been the favorite to land the gig, but Alec Mills is making a really strong push and might make the decision really difficult. Chatwood needs to prove that he can maintain his performance over several innings, so pay attention to how he does as he stretches out over the rest of spring.

Craig Kimbrel is set to relieve the starter in his first spring appearance after taking his time ramping up with live BP sessions. He’ll be followed by Kyle Ryan, Trevor Megill, Brock Stewart, and Caleb Simpson out of the ‘pen.

First pitch from Goodyear Ballpark is set for 2:05pm CT, with Marquee Sports Network providing the only local coverage.
