Craig Kimbrel ‘Responding Well’ but Won’t Be Activated Thursday

The initial hopes of Craig Kimbrel being activated from the injured list on Thursday, when he is first eligible to return, will not be coming to fruition. Word came out before Tuesday’s game with the Padres that Kimbrel was on the right track but would not be rejoining the Cubs bullpen prior to this weekend at the earliest.

Kimbrel was placed on the IL on September 5, retroactive to September 2, with inflammation in his right elbow. Here’s hoping that Kimbrel is indeed heading in the right direction and the extra time off will have him ready for some high-leverage innings over the next several weeks.
