When big Jon Lester isn’t painting the outside corner with perfectly placed cutters, he’s pimping oppo homers with ease. The legendary lefty’s offensive production is so good that even Cardinals exec John Mozeliak probably wishes Lester was manning first base in St. Louis at the moment.

Indeed, BDJ is now batting .250, walking in 14.3% of his plate apeparances, and putting up a 107 wRC+ with a .336 wOBA. For reference, Daniel Descalso is batting .181 with a .250 wOBA and 50 wRC+. Yup, Lester’s batting average is the same as Descalso’s wOBA. You tell me who you’d rather see pinch-hitting in a big spot?
