Injury News: Addison Russell to 10-Day Disabled List with Sprained Finger

Addison Russell has been dealing with pain in his left middle finger since early June, when the injury forced him to leave a game against the Mets. We’ve continued to hear about the nagging injury since then, and today, Russell was officially placed on the disabled list. The move is retroactive to Monday, August 20. Daniel Murphy was activated and takes his place on the 25-man roster.

Since June 3, when the injury first occurred, Russell has sported a .248/.308/.342 slash line with a .287 wOBA and 76 wRC+. In his last 30 games, the numbers are even worse: .208/.259/.238. That is a significant drop-off from what he was doing prior to the injury as he posted a .272/.347/.378 slash line with a .316 wOBA and 96 wRC+. Something has been noticeably “off” with Russell at the plate for some time now, so it’s no surprise to see that he is finally heading to the DL to hopefully recover.
