MRI Shows No Structural Damage for Darvish

Cubs GM Jed Hoyer announced through a spokesperson that Yu Darvish’s Tuesday MRI revealed no structural damage. Hoyer also confirmed what pitching coach Jim Hickey said earlier Wednesday, which is that Darvish is expected to resume a throwing program in the next four or five days.

It sounds as though the Cubs are just being really cautious with Darvish, which is as it should be. Joe Maddon said Tuesday that the pitcher had felt pain rather than just stiffness or soreness, so discretion was necessary.

All things considered, this is the best news the Cubs could have gotten. Darvish will miss at least one more start, though, which means Mike Montgomery taking another turn or two in the rotation.
