Watch: Russell, Zobrist Key Comeback With Big RBI Hits

It was looking like another one of those frustrating losses, another all-too-familiar trope that saw the Cubs fail to score runs in big moments. Making things all the more maddening was how they had given some opportunities away with miscues and poor decisions.

That all changed when Albert Almora Jr. caught a hanger from former Cub Arodys Vizcaino to put the tying run in scoring position with one out. Addison Russell then looked all kinds of hitterish as he took and fouled and took and fouled and fouled and took to run the count full. Then he absolutely tagged a 98 mph heater to very deep left-center, tying the game at two runs apiece.

After Tommy La Stella, for whom Vizcaino was dealt back to Atlanta, grounded out to advance Russell to third, Ben Zobrist flipped a heater to left to put the Cubs in front. It was an impressive collective display of being both aggressive and patient, punishing mistakes and flat-out beating the Braves.

So it was that in a game that had seen the Braves hurt by some questionable calls, Vizcaino’s outing officially allowed them to call BS.
