CI Recap (4/25/18) – Cubs 1, Indians 4: Indians Didn’t Blow 3-1 Lead
The Cubs could not get anything going on offense tonight. They had their chances, but the big hit was elusive. Jon Lester pitched well for the most part and was consistently hitting the strike zone (box score).
Why the Cubs Lost
In the bottom of the 5th and 6th innings, Lester allowed three solo home runs. This proved to be more than enough offense for the Indians.
Key Moment
Kyle Schwarber came up to the plate in the top of the 8th with one out and Willson Contreras on third. It was the perfect opportunity to drive in a run and cut the Indians’ lead to one run. Unfortunately, Schwarber was unable to put the ball in play and the Cubs did not score in the inning.
Stats that Matter
- Javy Baez was the only Cub to reach base twice.
- The Cubs went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
- The Cubs struck out 11 times while walking only three times.
- Anthony Rizzo committed his first error in 150 games.
