Cubs Quick Hits: Albert Almora Plays A Slightly Shorter CF than Dexter Fowler

Dexter Fowler and George Springer played the shortest centerfield — 299 feet and 298 feet, respectively — in the majors in 2015. Maddon’s nerds suggested that Fowler could save more runs if he played deeper, so the once-maligned centerfielder moved back to 321 feet in 2016.

Albert Almora doesn’t set up at either 299 feet or 321 feet like Fowler did, but rests in the middle at 314 feet. We’ve seen Almora’s ability to chase down balls deep in the outfield, probably allowing him to play a slightly shorter centerfield than Dex did last year.
