Cubs Prospect/Rapper John Williamson Creates Awesome Hype Video for Original Song ‘All the Way Up’

John Williamson was a good enough college pitcher for the Cubs to take him in the 23rd round of the 2015 draft, but it was his rap freestyle a few months back that really put him on the map with fans. The South Bend Cubs prospect, who has a 2.77 ERA in 43.2 innings on the mound and spits hot fire under the stage name Swilson off it, went viral when his impromptu concert was captured on Instagram by mental skills coach Darnell McDonald.

Now William(Swil)son has turned his freestyle from above into a hype video for the 2016 season. I’m a sucker for these highlight reels, particularly when there’s a good soundtrack involved, and I am not ashamed to admit that I got a few chills and goosebumps watching this one. While my assessment is obviously biased because of the Cubs angle, this guy’s a pretty legit lyricist. And not just when he’s dropping a few bars about his parent club, either. Swilson actually released his debut album, “Unreleased,” earlier this year.

Check out “All the Way Up” and see what you think.
