A Few of the Sights and Sounds of John Baker Day

The 1st Annual John Baker Day went off famously and was an absolute blast. The man of the hour addressed the crowd regarding his time with the Cubs as a player and his current role with the team, then we took in the musical stylings of Katie Day and Bad Teenage Mustache. Baker’s brother Will, a professional trombone player, joined in as well. And I won the first two prizes of the raffle, so that was cool.

Baker hung around for a while after the festivities to converse with a few of us about life, tattoos, and jiu jitsu before eventually joining us out in the bleachers just prior to the rain delay. In a beautiful twist of serendipity, we got to see a backup catcher hit a home run and a position player pitch during the Cubs’ blowout victory.

I was able to broadcast some of the gathering on Periscope and I’ve got links to the clips below. Please excuse the dark and sometimes grainy video, but the setting wasn’t necessarily conducive to great quality.

That said, some of the material is pure gold. Here’s a look at the setup over at Nisei Lounge, including a little sound check action, and here’s BTM singing Viva, Kris Bryant. I was able to capture Baker’s opening address and the start of the Q&A and also managed to score some hilarious stories about Larry Walker and Troy Tulowitzki. Finally, I’ve got Katie Day performing By the Lakeside.

Below are some tweets from the event and below that is a short slideshow just in case you can’t access the photos in the actual tweets. Huge kudos once again to Danny Rockett and Corey Fineran for putting this thing together. I’m already looking forward to next year.
