Injury Update: Dexter Fowler, Jorge Soler Begin Rehab in Iowa on Wednesday 07/20

Dexter Fowler and Jorge Soler are ready to start their rehab assignments at triple A Iowa but the weather isn’t. The headline to this post was going to read “today” but the Iowa Cubs have just announced that their game against the Salt Lake Bees has been postponed due to weather and will be played tomorrow as part of a doubleheader. The first game tomorrow will begin at 5:08 PM CDT.

Tomorrow will officially be the first day that fans in Des Moines will get the chance to see both Dexter Fowler and Jorge Soler out on the field.

You may recall that Dexter Fowler, who’s been on the DL since June 19 with an injured hamstring , was originally scheduled to begin his rehab with the South Bend Cubs. In fact, he actually played in a game for South Bend as DH on July 8 in an effort to try and see if he could be up and ready to go in time for his first All-Star appearance. He was scheduled to make the start in outfield for South Bend the following day but that never happened, nor did he end up playing in the All-star game.

As for Jorge Soler, he sustained his injury – a left hamstring strain – back on June 6 in a game against the Phillies. At the time of his injury, Jorge was starting to play some pretty solid baseball, the best he’d looked all season. Cubs Kingdom writer Collin Sallee wrote a feature piece on Jorge – just prior to the start of his stellar play – noting that Jorge was too talented to keep down for long.

It’s going to be a lot of fun watching these two guys play tomorrow in Iowa. It’s uncertain how involved they’ll be in the two games. If we’re lucky, fans will get to see them play in both but my suspicion is that they’d probably each play the field in just one, not both games. We’ll update you as soon as we hear more.
