Willson Contreras is a Bad Mamma Jamma

Even with Phish playing Wrigley this weekend, I preferred to roll with the Carl Carlton reference to describe the latest drum major in a parade of young Cubs bats marching through the league. Willson Contreras continued to pad his stats Saturday afternoon as he went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and two walks. He’s now slashing an impressive, and impressively round, .400/.500/.900 (good for…wait, don’t tell me…taking off my socks to count better…whoa, a 1.400 OPS) with 3 home runs and 9 RBI in just eight games played.

And he’s done all of that while starting at three different positions — catcher, first base, and left field. There are no doubt a few who will psshaw such exploits as being part of what professional athletes are paid to do, but that’s simply not the case. This young man is a bad mamma jamma and I’m excited to see what else he has in store.
