Jorge Soler Injury – Heading to DL, Albert Almora Called Up

Jorge Soler is heading to the 15-day DL and the Cubs have recalled uber prospect Albert Almora, age 22, who is currently ranked as the Cubs sixth ranked prospect according to Baseball America.

Almora has been fantastic so far for AAA Iowa this season, slashing .318/.335/.444 in 54 games.

This will be Almora’s first trip to the majors since being drafted by the Cubs straight out of high school in 2012 with the sixth overall pick. Also notable is the fact that he was also Theo Epstein’s first pick after arriving in Chicago. Almora is best lauded for his defensive play-making but recently has been hitting very well too.

It’s an unfortunate time to lose Soler, who started the year off slowly but has picked it up lately both on offense and defense. Look no further than his performance last night before his injury to see evidence of that.

As for Almora, he’s got a ton of potential and we can expect to see some incredible defense from him. Here’s a preview of his defensive prowess. This kid’s got talent, folks.
