Today Marks the 17th Anniversary of Kerry Wood’s 20-K Game (Video)

That can’t possibly be right, can it? 17 years? Sure enough, on Wednesday May 6th, 1998, a babyfaced Texan took the mound for only the fifth time as a Chicago Cub. He took his arm against of sea of troubles, and by opposing, ended them.

The Killer B’s boasted the bats of Craig Biggio, Derek Bell, Jeff Bagwell, and even future Cub Moises Alou. And while another future Cub, Ricky Gutierrez, would ruin the perfect game, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who’s ever seen a more dominating performance.

It was like an entire season’s-worth of nasty pitch highlights was unfolding over the course of 9 innings. Just unreal. I can’t write anything else that hasn’t already been penned, so I’ll just leave you with this highly distilled and incredibly intoxicating medley of Wood’s 20 K’s. Enjoy.
