Kyle Schwarber Makes a Grand Impression in First Spring Game

I don’t know if Kyle Schwarber has a Denny’s endorsement yet, but he did get a free grand slam on his birthday. Making his Cubs Spring Training debut as the DH in a split-squad game against the San Francisco Giants, Schwarber drove a Ryan Vogelsong pitch over to wall to drive in four runs.

Jorge Soler had singled to start the inning and Welington Castillo did the same before Kris Bryant walked to load the bases and set the stage for the Schwarbomb. After five months without baseball, it was quite a start for both the young slugger and fans following the the action.

And if that wasn’t enough, Mike Olt blasted a homer of his own in the Cubs’ other contest against the Oakland Athletics almost immediately after his organization-mate. Home runs in stereo, baby! Speaking of, if you’d like to listen to the Cubs/A’s game, you can do so here.
