Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/4/26): Cubs 4, Brewers 1 – Cabrera Crisp in Win
The Cubs were in Phoenix Wednesday to battle the Brewers on a sunny afternoon. New acquisition Edward Cabrera made his second appearance of the spring, and the road squad controlled things most of the day to pick up a win.
Cabrera had a couple of base runners during his outing, but he kept Milwaukee off the scoreboard over 2.2 innings of work. Infielder James Triantos gave Chicago the lead with an RBI single in the top of the 2nd, and a groundout by Moisés Ballesteros brought home another run in the 3rd.
Christian Yelich cut the deficit in half when he hit a solo home run against Jackson Kirkpatrick in the bottom of that frame to bring the score to 2-1 after three innings. Owen Miller got that tally back for the North Siders with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 4th.
Jefferson Rojas crushed a long solo home run to left field against Logan Henderson to make it 4-1 in the top of the 6th. The Cubs maintained that advantage the rest of the game to seal the victory. (Box score)
Key Moment
Chicago responded immediately to answer the one run Milwaukee scored.
Why the Cubs Won
The pitching staff did an excellent job keeping a pretty good Brewers offense in check.
Stats That Matter
- Cabrera had a pair of strikeouts and has looked pretty good so far.
- Triantos was the only player with more than one hit.
- Rojas has been very noticeable so far this spring.
Bottom Line
The Brewers still feel like the main opposition to the Cubs in the National League Central. It’s certainly possible the Reds or Pirates make a run, but it will probably come down to these two again in 2026. Cabrera could be a decisive factor in that race if he can live up to the potential in that big right arm of his.
On Deck
Chicago is back at Sloan Park for a matchup against the Diamondbacks on Thursday at 2:05pm CT. Colin Rea is the starter in a game that will not be televised.
