Merry Christmas from the Cubs Insider Family

I hope the rest of the staff doesn’t mind me speaking for them, but I’m the editor so I guess it really doesn’t matter whether they like it or not. It’s been a pretty big year for us here at Cubs Insider, one that has vastly exceeded even the lofty goals we had set for ourselves when we relaunched the site back in January. For that I’d like to thank all the people who believed in me enough to either combine forces or to continue submitting their work for me to edit and publish.

And then there’s you, dear reader, the one who really makes this whole thing work. I’ve said before that I’d write even if no one read, and I can say that there have been times when it seemed like no one was. But lo and behold, some of you read what we put out there and you actually came back. And while some among you may hate-read my dad jokes or esoteric pop culture references, others have actually come to dig what we’re doing here.

That’s what I’m most proud of, much more than the growing number of readers or comments or exposure that we’ve gotten. I love being able to pull together a ragtag collection of writers and ideas and share that with a little corner of the world. We strive to provide serious content without taking ourselves too seriously and, while we sometimes fall short of the mark, we believe we’ve done a pretty good job of that.

It is my sincere hope that something I’ve written over the past year has made you smile or laugh or cry or squirm or get angry. And if not me, then someone else who’s written something on this little independent site. We try to bring a little knowledge, but I think we also try to entertain.

And it’s with that in mind that I would like to wish you a merry Christmas, regardless of your beliefs or your current situation. It’s not always easy with all that’s going on in the world around us, but may you find a little more joy and hope and peace over these few days.

Writing is often what brings me the most joy, which is why I can never stop doing it for more than a day or two at a time. So even though things are going to be pretty quiet around here for a couple days, you can expect us to be right back at it soon enough. Oh, and we’ll be doing a little site maintenance in the meantime, so don’t be too alarmed if things are acting up for you.

Thank you, friends.
