Watch: Alex Avila Hits Second Cubs Home Run

Heading into Friday’s game, Alex Avila was slashing .138/.265/.190 in his last 68 plate appearances vs. right-handed pitchers. That’s, uh, not great. His one extra-base hit in that time was the home run he hit against Edwin Jackson on August 5. In fact, that was his only homer at all since June 28.

But D-backs starter Taijuan Walker has had a rough go of it against lefty batters at Chase Field and had just given up a homer to Kyle Schwarber. So when the big righty starter hung a curve, the catcher walloped it 443 feet to center for his second homer with the Cubs.
