Watch: Eloy Jimenez Pops into Grand Slam

In case you were still unaware by this point, Eloy Jimenez is an absolute freak. In Thursday evening’s game against the Winston-Salem Dash, the hulking outfielder was 2-for-2 with 5 RBI…in the 1st inning.

His first at-bat came with the bases loaded and no one out, and Jimenez took the first three pitches he saw to work a 2-1 count. When he did swing, he was way out in front of an offspeed pitch and didn’t catch it well at all. But when you are Eloy Jimenez and it’s only 308 feet to the wall in left, good things are bound to happen.

The ball carried and carried and carried until the Pelicans eventually took a 4-1 lead that they would not relinquish. In fact, they would go on to nearly triple that tally in the opening frame. The first 11 Pelicans reached base safely and by the time Jimenez came up again, his team was up 9-1 and had only one out.

He singled to drive in another run, after which Eddy Martinez capped the scoring with his second single of the inning. The Pelicans didn’t score again and only recorded one more hit, but this blast opened the floodgates on a rally that made the rest of the game academic.
