Watch: Javy Baez Talks About His Grand Slam, Slow Start, & More

You may not have even noticed, but Javy Baez’s offensive power numbers are actually better so far this year than they were last year. He’s slugging .470 so far this year while finishing 2016 with a .423 slugging percentage. A lot of that is driven by the fact that he already has six home runs in 117 at-bats, or one home run for every 19.5 ABs. Compare that to 2016 when he had 14 home runs in 421 ABs, or a homer every 30 at-bats.

Highlighting his power surge, Baez absolutely hammered a grand slam yesterday in the bottom of the first inning on his way to a 3-for-3 performance, including a walk. A nice day and perhaps a sign of things to come.
