Cubs Clip Fix (3/18/17): Heyward with Two Hits, Zobrist Triple, Happ Pounds One to Warning Track, More

Tonight’s game against the Kansas City Royals is a late one (lineup here) so we thought we’d give you a quick Cubs clip fix to tide you over until gametime. The Cubs played Japan and Milwaukee yesterday (recap here) and Evan and I were at the Japan game. With temps hovering in the mid-90’s it was a nice perk to be seated in the shade.

John Lackey pitched for the Cubs and didn’t look particularly sharp — he gave up a lot of hard-hit balls that found gloves — but he was good enough for this point in the spring. After Lackey gave up a 1st-inning home run, the Cubs offense stepped up to give him five runs of support before he exited the game after pitching five innings.

The Cubs got their first run in the bottom of the 1st inning when Jason Heyward grounded out, scoring Munenori Kawasaki. They scored two more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

In the bottom of the fifth inning the Cubs added two more runs to make the score 5-1.
